A Milestone in Healing: New Surgical Center at CURE Uganda

CURE Children’s Hospital of Uganda (CURE Uganda) held a groundbreaking ceremony on 28 September 2023 for a new state-of-the-art surgical center—the largest in the region.
CURE Uganda is a private not-for-profit (PNFP) Christian hospital dedicated to pediatric neurosurgery and integrated spiritual ministry. The hospital’s mission is to treat vulnerable children suffering from life-threatening neurological conditions at no cost to their families, thanks to the generous support of donors.
The groundbreaking event was attended by notable figures who have played pivotal roles in making this ambitious project a reality. We had Justin Narducci, the president/CEO of CURE International; Peter Kyalo, the chief program officer at CURE International; Mr. Patrick Cameron, a friend of CURE who has ardently supported our mission for the last 16 years; and Mama Angelina Wapakhabulo, a local board member and retired high commissioner to Kenya.
Dr. Emmanuel Wegoye, CURE Uganda’s medical director, delivered a powerful speech about CURE’s dedication to compassionate and high-quality care. “Our goal is not simply to treat more children but to treat them well. An efficient operating room is crucial to this endeavor, and the new surgical center is a significant step toward achieving this vision.”
This surgical center at CURE Uganda is set to be a true game-changer. With a design focused on advancing our efforts to provide the highest level of safety in surgery, this modern facility will have four operating rooms, each being three times the size of our current operating rooms. It will accommodate more patients and enable the hospital to perform more complex surgical procedures safely and efficiently.
This spacious facility will provide ample areas for medical teams to work efficiently and serve as a vital location for training future healthcare professionals. One such training is through the CURE Neuro Fellowship Program. Surgeons from across Africa and around the world come to learn groundbreaking procedures like the highly effective endoscopic third ventriculostomy with choroid plexus cauterization (ETV/CPC), a procedure developed at CURE Uganda.

The groundbreaking signifies the dawn of a new era for the hospital in providing care for vulnerable children. With the tireless efforts of dedicated individuals, CURE Uganda is set to embark on a journey that will transform lives and set new standards in surgical care.
As we continue to expand our reach and impact, we remain firmly grounded in our mission to bring healing, hope, and a brighter future to children in need of lifesaving neurosurgical care.
Every gift made to CURE empowers world-class Christian surgeons to be the hands and feet of Christ. Thank you for your partnership in this mission. Click here to donate.
